Our Take: Curating Your Artistic Vision and Its Presentation

The journey of an artist is a vibrant tapestry, woven with threads of creative passion and the very real pursuit of sharing that vision with the world. For those exhibiting their work, especially in the realm of photography, the presentation of each piece is as crucial as the art itself. It’s about creating an immersive experience for the viewer, a moment where the artwork transcends the canvas or print and truly connects. We understand the delicate balance between artistic integrity and the practicalities of sales, particularly when it comes to print options and their impact on your margins. The quest for that perfect print – one that elevates your work while remaining financially viable – is a familiar one, and it speaks to a desire for authenticity in every aspect of your creative endeavor.

The pursuit of quality and value is a hallmark of a discerning artist. While Shutterfly and Costco offer a level of convenience and professionalism that can be immensely helpful, particularly for time-sensitive exhibitions, it's natural to explore avenues that might further refine your presentation or enhance your profitability. The investment in framing and matting, while essential for a polished look, can indeed significantly impact your margins, especially when factoring in gallery commissions. This is where a deeper dive into specialized printing services and a curated approach to materials can unlock new possibilities. Consider exploring fine art printers that offer a wider range of archival papers and framing styles, allowing for a more bespoke and potentially cost-effective solution. Many of these services cater specifically to artists and can provide expert advice on maximizing both the aesthetic appeal and the economic sense of your exhibition pieces.

Ultimately, the decision rests on finding a harmonious blend of superior quality and strategic pricing that aligns with your artistic aspirations. It’s about more than just a print; it’s about the complete package that communicates the care and dedication you pour into your craft. By engaging with specialized printing partners and maintaining a keen eye on the details, you can ensure that your artwork is presented in a way that is both breathtakingly beautiful and financially rewarding, allowing your vibrant creations to shine with the confidence they deserve.

From Photography

I've been printing photos for local art exhibitions for the sale of my work. I've found Shutterfly (with my Costco membership) has been very help for timing and professionalism. The matted framed prints look very good. But I'm debating if there might be better avenues I should look at. The cost to do a 16X16 matted and framed is $169 and with my artwork running around $600 it eats into my margin quite a bit with the gallery's commission.

Any suggestions on better quality and or price?
