Event photography vs AI: do you feel insulated?
Our take
As a software developer venturing into event photography, the rise of generative AI raises intriguing questions about the value of capturing genuine moments. While AI can create convincing images, the essence of event photography lies in its ability to immortalize authentic experiences. This discussion invites working photographers—from weddings to theater—to share their perspectives on how AI impacts their craft. Are clients inquiring about generative AI’s role, or is it merely a passing trend?
I'm a software dev getting more serious about event photography on the side. I even have a hopefully regular paying client. Generative AI can obviously fake a convincing photo, but for events the value is capturing real moments. That feels harder to displace than, say, stock or product photography.
Do working event/wedding/theatre photographers feel the same? Has the rise of GenAI actually changed anything for you? Are clients asking about it, or is this a non-topic?
Feel free to add your thoughts if you come from another area of photography!
