How long does it take to get your 1st paid gig? (Agency signed)

Our take

Navigating the journey to your first paid gig can be both exciting and challenging, especially as a newcomer signed to an agency. You’ve taken significant steps by securing representation and updating your portfolio, yet the waiting game can feel daunting. With your agent actively submitting you for opportunities and even receiving interest from national brands, it’s natural to wonder about the timeline for landing that first job.

Hello all! I am recently signed to an agency (signed in December, got updated digitals, added to their website in January) & I have yet to get booked.

I am in development and my agent submits me semi-frequently for both commercial & runway work. My agent has personally reached out to me as well saying that he hopes I’ll land certain jobs. I’ve also had national brands reach out to my agent via casting sites asking me to submit. However, no luck on actually getting a gig yet!

I’ve done very intermittent runway and commercial freelance work over the years, but my resume is extremely limited & I am basically brand new to this world. My agency was the 1st I ever applied to and I got signed on the spot.

I’m wondering at this point if there’s something I need to be doing differently to finally book a gig? Or is it just a waiting game?
