Insurance question regarding 3rd party usage.

Our take

Navigating insurance for equipment use can be complex, especially when sharing gear for events. If you’re considering insurance and want to ensure coverage for others occasionally using your equipment, it’s essential to understand the specifics of your policy. Typically, standard equipment insurance might not cover third-party usage, particularly in non-business contexts. However, there are tailored policies designed for such scenarios. Exploring these options will help you secure the right coverage while enabling you to support volunteer efforts with confidence.

I am looking to pick up insurance soon, but I specifically would like to make sure that I can give gear to others occasionally for larger events. I am not a business and most of it would be volunteer work for context.

I guess my question is, does your average equipment insurance cover others using gear you own, and if it doesn't, what policies exist for this?
