Protect Your New Camera: Insurance for Peace of Mind.

A new camera is an investment in your art, but too often, the warranty feels like a promise made to be broken.

Protect Your New Camera: Insurance for Peace of Mind.

There's a quiet thrill in unboxing a new camera, that first click of the shutter feeling full of possibility. But as we've learned the hard way, that thrill can sour the moment a light drizzle hits or a stray splash lands on your lens. The Phoblographer's Photography Care Program, created with Full Frame Insurance, exists because too many of us have been left holding a broken camera and a denied claim. It's a response to a frustrating reality: manufacturers love to market "weather resistance" but often balk when you actually put that promise to the test. We aren't talking about submerging gear in a lake, but if a brand slaps "weather sealed" on a product, shouldn't they stand behind it when a little rain ruins your day? We think so, and we built a program to do something about it.

This isn't just about fine print or legal loopholes. It's the difference between feeling like a fool and feeling like a professional. We've all been there, standing in the middle of a street shoot, heart racing as the sky opens up, because the shot is too good to abandon. You trust the marketing, you trust the gear, and then you're left with a repair bill that makes you question the entire investment. This program was our answer, born from a place of genuine frustration and a desire to protect our community. It's a sentiment that echoes through our other stories, like when we revisit the Finding Joy on the Streets, One Frame After Fashion or explore the The Curated Archive: Revisiting the Olympus E-M5, the Original Icon. Those pieces celebrate the joy of capturing a moment, but they also remind us that the tool matters. We want you to be out there, chasing the light, not worrying about whether your camera can handle a little mist.

So, what's our honest take? The onus shouldn't be on you to read between the lines of a warranty. We believe in accountability, and we believe that if a brand says a product works a certain way, it should hold up under reasonable, real-world conditions. That's why we created this program, and it's why we're so passionate about it. It's not just about insurance; it's about giving you the confidence to create without hesitation. It's about saying, "We've got your back," so you can focus on the art, not the anxiety. We've also seen how a curated approach to your career, like the one discussed in Unpaid shoots can signal potential, but high-fashion goals demand a curated pivot, applies here too, it's about making smart, protective choices for your craft and your livelihood.

If you're asking us whether this program is worth it, we'd say this: it's a small price for the freedom to shoot without a second thought. The next time you're out in the field and the forecast looks iffy, you should be thinking about composition, not about the cost of a repair. We started this program because we believe your passion shouldn't be held hostage by a manufacturer's fine print. The real question we're left with is this: if we're willing to protect our gear, why are we not demanding more from the companies that build it? The answer, for now, is that we are, and we'll keep pushing until they listen.

From The Phoblographer

What's a brand new camera purchase without protection? A while ago, the Phoblographer created the Photography Care Program, in collaboration with Full Frame Insurance. It was made directly in response to the camera and lens manufactures not always honoring their warranties based on their marketing of products being weather resistant. Granted, we're not talking about waterproof products. But if a brand is saying that something works, shouldn't they be held accountable?
