Rosacea and Beauty Modeling - Hacks/Advice?

Our take

Navigating the beauty modeling world with rosacea and sensitive skin can be challenging, especially when casting directors prioritize clear skin. If you experience redness and splotchiness from nervousness or harsh makeup application, you’re not alone. Many models face similar hurdles, often struggling to convey their skin’s true condition in high-pressure situations. This discussion invites you to share your experiences and discover effective hacks and advice for managing rosacea during beauty castings.

Hi models! I have rosacea and sensitive skin, so when I'm nervous, I blush. Even if I'm not nervous, if a makeup artist applies foundation too harshly, my face goes red and splotchy (causing the makeup to look uneven and weird). I always mention this to artists beforehand but they never seem to actually apply things delicately hahahaha

Typically the redness just takes 2-3 minutes of no contact/chillness to return to normal, but as someone who does a ton of beauty castings (that last about 90 seconds) where clear skin is the selling point, this tends to freak casting directors out. It's hard to explain because my skin is totally clear otherwise (aside from some flat PIE scars that only show up when I'm flushed).

Does anyone have a similar issue and have you found ways to work around it? I know my sweet red cheeks are very beautiful and I'm not self conscious about them, but having uneven red flushing on your face is just not great for selling a foundation.
