sharing professional photos for free - how to add optional support?

Our take

Hey everyone! As a passionate photographer, I often capture moments at private events and gatherings, delivering high-quality images that bring joy to those involved. While I’ve been sharing these photos for free, I’m considering an optional support model that allows viewers to contribute without imposing a strict paywall. My idea is to offer free access to all images, with a voluntary support option—perhaps around 10 cents per image.

hey everyone,

i’m a photographer and i often take my camera with me at private events and social gatherings (e.g. birthdays, smaller events, etc.).

i always deliver the photos in high quality and put quite a bit of work into selecting and editing them, so the overall result is pretty professional.

people are always really happy with the images, and i’ve been sharing everything for free so far.

however, since it still takes a good amount of time and effort, i’ve been thinking about adding some kind of optional support model, without turning it into a strict paywall.

my idea would be something like:

• everyone can view and access all images • downloads are basically free • but people can optionally support me (for example \~10 cents per image or any amount they feel is fair)

so more like:

free access + voluntary support, instead of “pay to unlock”

i’ve looked into platforms like Pic-Time and Pixieset, but they seem more focused on fixed pricing and selling, rather than a flexible / donation-based approach.

has anyone here done something similar?

or found a simple setup that works well for this kind of use case?

would really appreciate any advice or real-world experience 🙏
