In recent years, a growing chorus of photographers has advocated for a return to CCD sensors, challenging the prevailing belief that they are obsolete. While some product managers and low-light specialists may disagree, the CCD sensor offers capabilities that have often been overlooked or forgotten. This discussion reveals not only its strengths in image quality but also highlights a significant advantage that many photographers may not even be aware of. It’s time to re-evaluate the potential of CCD technology and embrace its artistic possibilities.
For the past few years, photographers (including me) have been saying that we need to go back to CCD sensors. The only ones saying that we shouldn't do that are product managers, photographers who only shoot in low light or know how to use a flash, and those of us who also make a lot of video. But the CCD sensor is capable of far more than we knew: including a big thing that most photographers forgot about or never even knew.
