Self Publishing a Photo Book

I’m looking to self publish a book of my photos I took on the set of Hedwig and the Angry Inch. My problem: I have no idea where to start. Do I lay it out first? How? Is there a program to assist with this? The photos are all from film- do I scan the negs first? What quality dpi?

I need to learn all of it! Any suggestions are appreciated!
