Canceled my trip to the United States.

Hello, I’m from Europe and I’ve been planning a 3 weeks trip to New York for months.

I’m more of an outdoor person, but I wanted to offer this to my wife and my 10yo son by discovering this city and creating some great family memories together.

That said, with the recent politics/war events initiated by the united states I really don't see ourself going there and be around this. Also as non Americans it even makes me a bit anxious to be there right now.

This trip was a big investment for us, so thankfully I took out cancellation insurance for the flights and hotels.

We were supposed to go in early June, but now we’re considering a lastt minute alternative outside the US, ideally even outside America. We would also prefer to avoid flying close to the Middle East at the moment, obviously.

We’re struggling to find something with a similar vibe to New York, since it’s such a unique city. We thought about big modern cities in Asia, but we don’t speak the language and it feels a bit rushed to organize that kind of trip.

Any ideas for a 3weeks trip with a couple and a 10yo?
Also, are we overreacting? Curious to see what would you do in our position.

EDIT : Wow, that’s a lot of comments in a short time. I won’t be able to respond to all of them, but let me be clear about something: we are not “fearing for our lives” by coming to the USA. We’re not stupid, we know we’re not going to end up in camps like I’ve seen mentioned in some comments.
What we're concerned about is the toxic atmosphere. As Europeans, we know what far right movements can lead to. If you don’t understand what is bothering us, you’re missing an important chapter of history. What is happening in the USA right now, we recognize those patterns, and we don’t want to be around that.

Also, I’ve already canceled my trip to New York. I got a full refund, and there is zero chance we’ll choose to go there this year.
