Goodbye sweet girl

Our sweet bantam, the best little hen.

Favorite of the roos, and the friendliest soul in the flock. Only one year old, taken too soon in a predator attack on April 2.

spring is a season of opening,

of life stretching back toward the light—

but it also carries quiet endings.

our gentlest bantam,

a soft presence among us,

now returned to the same earth that held her.

nature gives, and nature takes.

we feel the loss because we loved her.

Closing out my first year as a chicken owner. Finally lost my first one. Maybe that’s why it hits a little hard.
