Wanting to get into a certain niche/genre and I am looking for advice
I have wanted to get into photography for YEARS and I am finally getting ready to make it happen. I have a full time career and so I’m really not looking to make a full blown career out of photography. However, I’d love to build my skills to turn it into a weekend side hustle/passion project.
The thing is, I really have no interest in taking generic family photos. If I was making this my career I would take that aspect more seriously but I would rather focus on a niche that interest me more.
I am considering doing shoots for people locally that involve a concept, and doing makeup and hair for them, and them dressing in costumes or body paint. For example: I want to do a shoot where I have a lady willing to let me do their hair and makeup and some body paint details and pose in the woods and I capture her body in artistic fashion. It’s hard to explain… but I want it to be a creative, artistic, sometimes abstract to capture a certain “vibe”. Use color filters and different effects to make really artsy and sometimes kitschy.
I’m sure I’d have no issue finding people who are down to do creative artistic shoots like this but I have no clue what to label them as!
Is it considered creative portrait photography? How do I “sell” this? (By sell, I mean advertise - I’m not sure if people would know what I mean if I just say a creative photoshoot).
I imagine there is a genre specific to this type of photography but I would like to explore this more.
