The Walkman Rewrites Its Legacy with an Exquisite New Chapter

Nearly everyone knows the name, but the Sony Walkman isn't resting on nostalgia. Since 1979, it has evolved from a portable cassette player into something far more refined. Today, it returns in exorbitant style, an exquisite chapter that feels more like a luxury artifact than a music device. While smartphones killed most portable players, the Walkman kept kicking, and now it does so with a curator's eye. For those who appreciate this kind of considered design, Billingham's New Rucksack offers a similarly elegant compromise.
