Are people leaving Instagram for photography?

Are photographers shifting away from Instagram as their primary platform for sharing work? Recently, there has been a noticeable decline in the frequency of posts from photographers on Instagram, prompting a shift toward newsletters, blogs, and smaller online communities. This raises the question of whether this trend signifies a broader movement away from Instagram or if it's merely an isolated observation. Additionally, many are exploring new platforms for visibility, including one with a blue or dark logo, prompting curiosity about its potential impact.
I’ve noticed fewer photographers posting regularly on Instagram lately.
Some seem to be moving toward newsletters, blogs, or smaller online communities instead of relying on one big platform.
It made me wonder if photographers are stepping away from Instagram, or if it’s just my impression.
Where are people sharing their work now? I have a website but honestly it’s hard to get traffic in.. I hear about another platform called quite similar at a point, I believe it had a blue/ dark logo. Did you ever heard of it?
And is thread a thing?

- Is 500px still worth it in 2026? Or nah?Hey, I’m trying to find a solid place to post my photos, get real feedback (not just likes), find inspo and maybe join some legit photo challenges. Right now I’m looking at: Flickr – used it years ago. Still alive but feels kinda legacy? Not sure how active it is now. Behance – looks polished but more for designers than photographers? 500px – seems like what I want: photo-focused, cleaner feed, discovery and challenges. Feels like a “modern Flickr”? But I keep seeing mixed (sometimes bad) takes on 500px though most of those posts are pretty old. So what’s the real deal now in 2026? Is 500px still worth using? Is the community active / helpful? Are the contests actually good or just fluff? - Is anyone a part of a photography community?I have been taking photos since I was 15. I used to be on Flickr in the late 2000s and it was an incredible place to post photos and talk to other photographers. Lately, I’ve been missing those days a lot. Instagram is great for posting but terrible for community building. I love Newgrain since I mostly shoot film but there’s no place to start a conversation other than commenting which is intimidating. - Has the throttle of Instagram reach affected your desire to create - Because direct photo content no longer equates to more opportunites, necessarily?I apologize if this is an insuluar take but for the past couple of years my interest in photography has waned. I used to have a healthy following on several social platforms and then around 2021-2022 my desire to shoot after 7-8 years dropped off and coincided with the move to video content and the rise of "the algorithm" which caters to reels etc. I am not aganist these changes but (admittedly) never really got on board with how to integrate my work into video marketing and simply enjoy shooting photos and posting to the grid. I've recently rekindled my enjoyment for the artform through a slightly different niche and while my work has gained traction through in-person connections, collabs, and is being seen by more people, that sort of organic social community that was prevelant on Instagram, Tumblr, Flickr, Devinart, etc. Is severly lacking. Posts may get 1,000s of views but no follows. They may get 10 views and no follows. It certainly might mean my work isn't resonating with people, I understand that, but it's also a little discourging that as an artist, I can't get my work out there. I"ve thought about now moving into doing more analog and community based art for my own benefit and sort of "going aganist" the digital grain while trying to learn reels and video for expanded reach (which I admit, is ego serving). All that said, does anyone else have the same feelings?
